Alan Bowman founded Environmental Design Group in 1969 with colleague, William Ludwig. The pair struck out to create a different style of architectural firm, one predicated on a multi-disciplined approach to creating livable, workable environments that serve as well as inspire.

From this endeavor, they formalized the process of drawing on a variety disciplines to create a cohesive dynamic problem-solving process that integrates architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, planning and interior design.

This level of interaction among qualified professionals ensures that no aspect of a project exists or emanates from a vacuum. It's this spirit of cooperation and common purpose among related fields of design and construction that allows EDG to provide its clients with structures and environments the win the most important award of all-customer satisfaction.

Various office/medical and planning projects have been recognized for excellence in design. The Kirke-Van Orsdel, Inc. Corporate Headquarters Campus was recognized as Building of the Year in 1993.

The Design Process

With each project, EDG guides its clients in brainstorming, problem-solving and imagining the possibilities for quality spaces designed for interaction, learning, work and recreation. The process is elegant, yet dynamic.

• A need emerges for a space or environment.
