Ladco I

This two-story professional office building is Phase One of a two-building complex located on a ten-acre site situated on the last undeveloped "lake" in West Lakes. The exterior of the building is a combination of brick veneer with ribbon windows and high performance structural glazed curtainwall. Site utilization is optimized at 10,000 s.f. per acre and the speculative building has an extremely efficient R/U factor of 1.09. The combined buildings present a unified campus appearance on Westown Parkway with broad expanses of floor to ceiling curtainwall facing the lake and with deeply recessed, inviting entrances.

Perfection Learning

Perfection Learning is an 18,690 s.f. two-story office building for a single user. The upper level is the main level and the lower level is a walkout on three sides. The unique site conditions provide a park-like setting with street view for a two-story element where the parking is behind the building. The main entry is more intimate as a single story with a canopy entrance. The building is wood frame with a hip roof, and brick and stone veneer construction. The over hangs protect the Prairie-style windows that provide diffused daylight into the open-plan interior.

KVI Corporate Headquarters

Exterior
The dramatic entrance to Kirke Van Orsdel's Corporate Headquarters punctuates the rolling landscape of the West Lakes Business Park. This 165,000 square-foot structure serves as the anchor for a three-building campus. The second building measures 102,000 square feet and is connected to the main building with a skywalk/conference center. Throughout both buildings, the design strikes a delicate balance between form and function.

Interior
Highly energy-efficient, the building incorporates the latest in heating and cooling technology with more than 165 discrete HVAC zones controlled by a Novar DDC system. The design maximizes the use of natural light in high-profile areas of the building, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal. The building received Mid-American Energy's award for 1993 as the most energy-efficient building in the electrical provider's service area

Interior II
KVI interiors range from purely functional to understated elegance, depending on the demands of the space. For example, the computer facilities are tailored to fit KVI's specifications. The cafeteria is another example of balancing the company's functional priorities with its penchant for style.

Pioneer Hi-Bred International - Carver Conference Center

Exterior
Carver Center strikes a balance between form and function for the plant seed giant Pioneer Hi-Bred International. With a bold architectural statement, Carver stands in testament to the company's evolution and the agricultural revolution it instigated a century ago with the introduction of hybrid seed technology. As a major employer with international operations, the company holds thousands of meetings and conferences each year. Carver Center is designed as a state-of-the-art meeting and conference venue that speaks to company's rich agricultural history and positions it for communicating in the global marketplace. To achieve this objective, Carver features training, meeting room, video conferencing, auditorium, and cafeteria facilities for groups of 10 to 1,000 people. Materials were carefully chosen to blend with surrounding masonry campus buildings and to emphasize the permanence and agrarian roots of the company. High-tech aluminum, steel space frame, and glass elements coalesce to portray Pioneer's image as one of the nation's leading biotechnology companies.

Interior

Auditorium
Carver Center's 200-seat auditorium features a CRT-based front-projection system with tiered seating. Every seat is within 45 feet of the podium, and acoustics are carefully designed to allow speakers to be heard by each participant without electronic assistance. Power/data ports are provided at every seat make the room completely interactive. For video-conferencing, a companion room provides tiered seating for 19 and is equipped with twin 53-inch CRT projection monitors, voice-activated cameras, document camera, and electronic white board.

Conference Rooms
Carver Center's four 36-by-64-foot conference rooms are identical and interchangeable to allow presenters to be fully acclimated with the components at each facility. Each room features rear CRT-based projection to allow presenters to stand in front of the screen without casting shadows on the presentation data. Electronic whiteboards are incorporated throughout the facility, as well as power and data ports for up to 50 users. Acoustics and lighting are enhanced by 14-foot ceilings, direct and indirect lighting, and sound absorbing walls, floors and ceilings. All room functions are controllable from the lectern by a Crestron controlling device.

Cafeteria
Carver Hall's full-service cafeteria, serving 450 to 600 meals daily, caters to the entire Pioneer campus. The main dining area offers large windows, natural light, and a pleasant view. One private dining room and six breakout rooms provide an intimate setting for smaller group meetings. The serving area incorporates the latest ?scatter' serving method, doubling service capacity.

Terrace Place

Terrace Place is situated at a 45-degree angle to Grand Avenue to reduce the mass of the building and achieve scale in harmony with the neighborhood. Traditional materials allow this modern office building to complement its wooded site and the surrounding Owl's Head area.

United Way Building

This contemporary office building was designed specifically for 15 nonprofit agencies. The design is organized around a three-story atrium with tinted glass skylights, glass elevators and attractive landscaping. The common area of the building includes a cafeteria, restrooms, a mailroom, wellness recreation center, and a conference room with an attached kitchen.
